Frequently Asked Questions

We are looking at scanners for our warehouse, what should we be considering?

There are many factors to consider, one of the most important things to consider is the robust build of the scanners. Most manufacturers have a line of scanners and readers that are classed as “rugged” or “Ultra-Rugged”, built for surviving drops, and the tough environmental conditions of the warehouse. Second, you would want to consider scan range, will the scanner require longer scan ranges for items that cannot be reached easily, then there are issues regarding connectivity and service agreements. Other factors include network coverage requirements and form factors including options over touch screen or buttons. There are many factors to consider, our experts will be more than happy to talk you through all the options.

What data capture technology should we choose – barcode or RFID?

Both RFID and barcoding have their advantages, and the choice between them depends on your budget and specific application needs. RFID typically requires a larger investment for installation, design, and tags, but it provides a positive return on investment for large operations that need instant scanning of pallets, cross-docking, and enhanced security. In comparison, barcoding is more cost-effective for most operations, although it may be slower and require more labour-intensive processes.

There is a large range of printers, how do we decide which is right for us?

Factors to consider include, size, mobility, print quality & resolution, speed, RFID encoding options and volume of labels you intend to print.  One of the main considerations is the choice of thermal transfer printing or direct thermal printing technologies.  Printing labels is too important to leave to chance so speak to one of our print experts for free guidance today.

We currently use consumer phones and tablets for scanning, why change?

Many small operations start out using their mobile phone image capture scanners or tablets to capture barcodes, believing this is an alternative for professional scanners.  In time it is realised that the scans are slow and unreliable, WIFI coverage is poor and the devices are easily damaged in an industrial environment.  Professional scanners provide robust build, fast scan engines that read a variety of barcodes and utilities for easy integration and networking.  For professional operations, choose scanners from our approved manufacturers.
