RFID tracking is being embraced by organisations across the globe for applications where large amounts of data needs to be stored and read quickly.
The major advantage of RFID asset tracking over barcode systems is its ability to be read without the need for "line of sight", allowing 100's of items to be read at the same time.

The DoD is a good example of the adoption of RFID technology to help improve their shipping and traceability as dictated in their requirement document for shipping and storage, also known as MIL-STD-129P.
Information such as the company number and cage code are encoded into the tag to allow the item to be identified easily. The RFID tag has become so important that any delivery with either an incorrect or missing RFID label will be refused, no matter what the value or where it's been shipped from.
