GSM Barcoding has provided many Poke Yoke systems, often applied in the goods despatch function. Most systems require an element of customisation to suit specific customer requirements. A typical system application/configuration could be:
Goods despatched to a customer must be packed with a specific quantity of the same part on a stillage. The system can be easily configured with customer ID, part number and the correct quantity of parts per shipment. A barcode label containing the part number is attached to the part during manufacture or packing. This barcode is scanned by a short-range RF barcode scanner or Portable Data Collection Terminal (PDCU) as the product is loaded onto the stillage in the despatch area. The remaining number of parts required to complete a fully laden stillage is displayed on the PC screen. The process is repeated until the full stillage quantity is reached. When the stillage is full a message is displayed on the PC screen. A despatch note and label are automatically produced.
The operator is prevented from despatching a partially full stillage because the despatch label cannot be printed. Overloading a stillage or loading incorrect products will trigger a system alarm. Every barcode scan is recorded together with time date and user.
The system can produce management reports including goods despatched to each customer. Reports on operator activity, such as products scanned per despatch and time taken to pack each stillage, can also be produced.
